2022 Allianz Youth Sailing World Championships successful test for ‘big World Champs’ in 2023

The 2022 Allianz Youth Sailing World Championships last summer in The Hague turned out to be another showcase for sailing. The well attended event also increased the enthusiasm for the 2023 Allianz Sailing World Championships in August, that will put The Netherlands in the spotlights again.

‘It was undoubtedly a very successful event. An extremely positive experience for all involved and, yet again, the bar was raised higher, with an event delivered to a super professional standard across every dimension”, stated World Sailing Technical Delegate Pedro Rodrigues after the event.

‘Thanks to all members of the organizing committee, volunteers, race officials for all their work and commitment and all participants for the extraordinary environment of respect, tolerance and mutual help.’

During eight days in July 415 athletes from 67 countries competed in the coastal area of Scheveningen, The Hague. There were 310 boats and boards on the venue. Spain won the Nations Trophy. The event was characterized by great competition, fair sailing and amazing experience with the local community.

Arno van Gerven, director Royal Dutch Watersport Association: ‘The Allianz Youth Sailing World Cup was an important test for the big World Champs next year in The Hague. We are very pleased with the positive evaluation from World Sailing, which is in line with our internal evaluation. The enthusiasm and commitment from the organization and volunteers for next year is growing by the day.’

The Youth Sailing World Championships were also a great test of the venue where the 2023 Allianz Sailing World Championships for Olympic Classes will take place.

The organization was able to use and test all features from tracking, analytics and new website. World Sailing further praised the great collaboration between the supplier’s representatives and the organizers and the great and dedicated support personnel that was provided by the organizers.

A compliment that was accepted in thanks by Ilse Janssen, Sailing Manager Allianz Sailing World Championships. ‘For all the sailors, it was a special experience to compete in a Youth World Champs. These are the possible medal winners at the Olympic games in the future. For the organizers, it was a good test in preparation for the Worlds in 2023. As a team, we learned a lot and made great progress in preparation towards the Worlds in 2023. We are very much looking forward to host the future world champions.’
