At this moment, people in Scheveningen can see large fields of sailors or wind and kite foilers off the coast. They are there for the official test events leading up to the Allianz Sailing World Championships 2023. These world championships will be held from 10 to 20 August 2023 in The Hague. Around 1,400 top athletes from 90 countries will then compete off the coast of Scheveningen in ten Olympic classes and one Paralympic class for the world title.
This world championship in Olympic classes has never been held in the Netherlands before.
The participants are invited to practice and train in each discipline. Due to the size of the competitors, it is not possible for these test events to take place at the same time.
The preparations for 2023 already started a few years ago together with the volunteers of a few large sailing clubs. Because we are talking about a very large operation, both on land and on the 7 race tracks at sea and 1 paralympic track on the Braassemermeer. Moreover, these world championships are the most important qualification moment for the Olympic Games, which will be held one year later in Paris.
The first test event of the Kitefoilers and the mixed 470 class is over. That activity went very well. See below all test events on the calendar.

Ilse Jansen, Sailing Manager of the World Cup was very pleased with this first test in two disciplines. “We are very pleased with the results and the feedback we have had from the international participants. Our own top sailors sail here regularly and we know their wishes and warnings, of course. We need to work on a few points, but I am confident that these test events will be well appreciated by the international top sailors.”
