The Grinders perform the heavy work on board and are comparable to top athletes. With their muscular strength and endurance, they operate the winches, thus positioning the sails on the seaworthy yachts correctly. The current and modern way to do this is through the use of the classic handwheel.
With the Harken Grinding Competition Unit, you have the opportunity to experience this part of the sport. It is a challenge where participants use a trax system to virtually hoist the sail up or down. The time stops after 20 revolutions, and participants can see who is the fastest on the scoreboard.
